KRVC Executives obtain Certificates for City Contracts

iDecember 02, 2014

For the first time in several years, KRVC was awarded a NYC Council funded contract.  Councilmember Andrew Cohen awarded $15,000 of his discretionary funds to KRVC to produce a "Meet the Riverdale Merchants Movie."  As part of our contract execution, KRVC's Executive Director and Development Director both attended a day-long capacity building training.  They both received Certificates of Completion for successfully completing the Mayor's Office of Contract Services Training Course in Capacity Building Training for Council Funded Community Partners. The training took place in lower Manhattan from 9am - 5pm and consisted of six presentations on Best Practices for Not-for-Profits.  KRVC is meticulous about keeping in compliance with the the numerous rules and filings for not-for-profits but it is always good to exceed those and to strive implement even more stringent Best Practices.  Receiving state and local funds brings the added responsibility to really account for all our expenditures and we were pleased to learn a great deal about internal controls and policies that will help us improve our accountability.  The training sessions included: (1) Good Governance and Legal Compliance; (2) Board Development; (3) Guarding Against Theft and Corruption in Your Nonprofit Organization; (4) Internal Controls for Small Nonprofits; (5) New York City Discretionary Awards:  Vetting Process; (6) New York City Discretionary Contracts:  Procurement and Oversight.  Presenters were from many organizations including the Lawyers Alliance for New York City and the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc.  KRVC plans to consult with both of those entities to enhance and improve our current practices, develop and adopt new polices, etc.
